เมืองพิชัยอยู่ในตำบลในเมืองอำเภอพิชัยตามทางหลวงหมายเลข 1204 ห่างจากตัวจังหวัด 45 กิโลเมตรเป็นเมืองเก่าอยู่ริมฝั่งแม่น้ำน่านทางทิศตะวันตก สันนิษฐานว่าพระบรมไตรโลกนาถทรงโปรดให้้สร้างขึ้นเป็นเมืองหน้าด่านมีกำแพงเมืองและคูเมืองสร้างขึ้นไว้กับเจดีย์์ต่างๆ ปัจจุบันร่องรอยเมืองพิชัยเก่าเกือบไม่หลงเหลือให้เห็น มีเพียงเจดีย์เก่าที่วัดหน้าพระธาตุ ซึ่งเป็นวัดที่ประดิษฐานหลวงพ่อโต อันเป็นที่เคารพสักการะของชาวเมืองพิชัยมาแต่โบราณ

Is situated in Tambon Nai Mueang, Pichai District, about 45 km. away from the province along highway No. 1204. It is an old town located on the bank of Nan River on the west side. It is assumed that Phra Boromtrailokanart has ordered construction of the town as a frontier town having wall and moat, which were built along with various chedi. At present, the trace of old Muang Pichai almost disappeared, and there is only an old chedi at Wat Nah Phrathat where Luang Pho Toh. which is revered by citizens of Mueang Pichai ancient time, is located
